Information & Web Literacy Searching & Evaluation
Skills
Knowing how to find, evaluate, and properly use on-line resources
is a key component of information literacy in the digital age.
And its something that few educators were taught when they were
in school. How to best use the different kinds of search engines.
How to find out if on-line information is accurate or reflective
of a particular bias. How to judge the relevancy of material
to your desired purpose. How to cite on-line material. This
is knowledge and skills that all educators need to be able to
teach to their students - but first they need to understand
it themselves. MNEP can conduct workshops for your staff to
explore these issues in ways that are appropriate to your district's
technology resources and pedagogy. Please contact Steven
Miller for more information.
Defining
Expectations: Setting Technology Competency Goals for Students
and Staff
In 1998 and 1999, Mass Networks convened Round Table discussions
that lay the ground work for state-wide policy concerning desired
student technology competency expectations. Building on that,
in October 2001, Mass Networks conducted a workshop on "Technology
Competency Standards for Students and Staff" as part of
the Policy Strand of Project MEET. The following material provides
a summary of what participants learned. MNEP conducts similar
workshops for district leadership teams, with the content customized
to your situation and needs. If you are interested, please contact
Steven Miller or Erica Levy for more information.
