The school web site templates and guidelines have been created as a team effort. Below are the people and organizations who have contributed.
The creation of the School Web Page Development Guide has been supported and underwritten by Sun Microsystems, Inc. Sun has also supported NetDay activities in California and is sponsoring 11 Mass Networks Partner schools for Mass NetDay at the end of October with equipment grants and employee volunteer assistance.

With annual revenues exceeding $7 billion, Sun Microsystems, provides products and services that enable customers to build and maintain open network computing environments. Widely recognized as a proponent of open standards, the company is involved in the design, manufacture and sale of products, technologies and services for commercial and technical computing. Sun's SPARC(TM) workstations, multiprocessing servers, SPARC microprocessors, Solaris operating software and ISO-certified service organization each rank No. 1 in the UNIX(R) industry. Java(TM), Sun's platform-independent programming language, provides a comprehensive solution to the challenge of programming for complex networks, including the Internet. Sun Microsystems was founded in 1982, and is headquartered in Mountain View, California.

Nicole Yankelovich

Nicole Yankelovich is responsible for the conception and design of the School Web Page Development Guide including the design of the Web Page Templates and the Children's Spot Illustrations.

In addition to working on the Web Page Guide, she is also working on two other NetDay projects. She is helping teachers in the Lowell City Magnet and the Lowell Arts Magnet schools to create web sites, and she is working on an Introduction to the Internet for Teachers to help educuate Massachusetts teachers about basic Internet principles.

When she is not working on NetDay projects, Nicole manages the Speech Applications Group in Sun's east coast research laboratory in Chelmsford, MA. Her background is in software design, particularly for hypertext and speech systems. She also enjoys garden design and flower photography.

Lowell teachers and students

The design of the two Lowell home page templates was a collaborative effort between Nicole Yankelovich and Lowell Magnet school computer teachers Paul Katler and Lauren Reilly.

Many of the wonderful illustrations used in the templates were created by students in the Lowell school district. Mikhaela, a Lowell High School student, drew the school building found on the Lowell Home Page Template 1, based on photographs she took of a variety of schools in her district.

7th and 8th grade students at the Lowell Arts and City Magnet schools, Thuy, Freida, Heather, and Valentina, are responsible for the spot illustrations of schools, kids, and animals. Thuy, for example, drew the boy on the left, which is an excerpt from his charming Lion drawing.

The children's illustrations were created by using a Casio digital camera to photograph the artwork. Then Adobe Photoshop was used to crop the illustrations, remove the backgrounds, and scale them, if necessary.
