For the most part, each state in New England
already has a statewide assessment system for reading, mathematics
and science in place (see Current
Testing Status for New England States). However, none
of these states currently administers tests in all three subjects
every year from grades 3-8. In addition, schools will need
to disaggregate data, measure student progress against a state-developed
benchmark, set instructional goals based on data, and issue
report cards making this data public. Not only will such tests
and structures need to be created and administered during
an already-packed school year, schools will need to find the
resources to help them analyze and use approximately double
the current amount of test data in setting instructional goals.
