Job Title: Executive Director (Date Posted: March 10, 2004)

Mass Networks Education Partnership, a non-profit organization based in Massachusetts whose mission is to improve educational leadership, curriculum, and the technology that supports improved outcomes for all leaders, seeks an Executive Director.

The Executive Director will be responsible for leading an accomplished and energetic staff that helps schools and educators integrate technology as an essential and powerful facilitator in several areas:

  1. implementing standards-based curriculum, instruction, and assessment;
  2. strategic planning and professional development for major efforts to improve student learning outcomes;
  3. data informed decision making and project evaluation in the context NCLB requirements and a broader move towards embedded "assessment for learning".

The Executive Director will be responsible for managing all aspects of the organization and will need to have expertise in the areas of learning pedagogy, education reform, technology, non-profit business development including grant writing and negotiating partnerships with both non-profits and for-profit vendors, internal management and staff supervision, as well as marketing and public outreach. The Executive Director will be responsible for maintaining Mass Networks' reputation for leadership and high quality. Salary commensurate with experience.

Reporting Relationships: The Executive Director reports to a Board of Directors.

Compensation: Salary commensurate with experience.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • The Executive Director has overall responsibility for the programmatic, financial, strategic, and daily operations of the organization.
  • The Executive Director is the primary source of new business at Mass Networks, bringing new business and ideas to the Mass Network Board and the staff for discussion and implementation either by MNEP acting alone or in partnership with others.
  • The Executive Director supervises and supports the staff, promoting individual growth and respecting the staff's professionalism while fostering organization-wide collaboration and high standards of quality and effort.
  • The Executive Director is responsible for the establishment and smooth operation of all control systems, the performance of all required audits, and the filing of all necessary reports.
  • The Executive Director creates and tracks an annual budget for Board examination and approval.
  • The Executive Director will work closely with the Board of Directors and will assume other responsibilities as directed.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Master's degree or above, preferably in an education-related field, along with at least 10 years work experience, at least some of which must be in education, preferably in K-12 schools.
  • Management experience in non-profit and/or small business environment, along with grant writing and/or business development expertise and a comfort in using digital technologies.
  • Strong public speaking and writing skills, preferably demonstrated through published education-related articles, along with knowledge of current issues in education reform including experience with assessment, professional development, program evaluation,
    and technology integration.
  • Familiarity with Massachusetts and national education and education technology organizations,with a strong set of contacts and associations.
    Flexible and innovative; able to work collaboratively with warmth, care, patience, and a sense of humor.
  • A vision for the future to grow the organization by exploring uncharted environments.
